According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), acne is the most common skin disorder in the United States, affecting 40–50 million Americans at one time. (Acne affects both adults and teens.)  teenage acne

For teens, there are usually three main issues that cause persistent acne: hormones, a poor or improper skin care regimen, and diet.

So what acne help is there to correct the problem, then?  For most teens, its fairly simple, actually:  cleanse and treat.

You’re probably thinking, "yeah, duh, of course."   The fact is, cleansing is not so simple as some think.  I often have people say, "I wash my face three times a day! My face is clean!" Unfortunately, this often causes more harm than good.  Over-washing and/or washing with abrasive or harsh chemicals leads to skin irritation, making the perfect environment for bacteria to enter into the skin, mingle with the oil, and produce more acne.

Also, most cleansers do not address the issue of enclosure, where the dead skin cells impact together, trapping bacteria and oil inside. Many people are hesitant to use a facial moisturizer, with the fear that their skin will become more oily and more prone to breakouts.  Again, this results in over-irritation to the face, especially when harsh treatment products are being used.

The real issue, then, is cleansing and treating in the right way with the right products.  Using a cleanser to removes dead skin cells and which also enters into the pore to rid it of bacteria without over-drying is the paramount first step. Masking to pull impurities, then moisturizing to soothe the skin, are next, with products that will reinforce a matte, luminous, and more uniform appearance while healing the skin.

Other Ways To Fight and Prevent Acne

For some, hormones play a large role in the formation of acne, and this requires a trip to see your doctor.

Also, the foods you eat, including sugar, can be a part of acne formation and must be regulated if you want your skin to be blemish-free.

Then, there are many simple, everyday things you can do to lessen breakouts, like changing your pillowcase, using a clean washcloth, and not holding your phone to your face.

Acne is a problem just about everyone has to deal with in the course of their lifetime, but it isn't insurmountable!
