Botox Injections

Botox injections are the most popular non-surgical medical cosmetic procedure in the United States, with over 2.7 million treatments administered in 2007. About Botox Today, both women and men use this popular wrinkle treatment as part of their regular "maintenance" routine, considering to be no different than a trip to get a hair cut.

Botox is in a group of facial injections known as neuromuscular toxins.

It is most appropriate for active, or what is known as "dynamic," lines caused by repeated facial movement or age-associated wrinkles that are just starting to appear.

It is also used very successfully in other ways, such as creating a subtle eyebrow lift to reduce bagging over the eyes.

One of the things I find particularly appealing about Botox injections is that it gives visible, yet not permanent, results to those looking to do away with wrinkles in the forehead and eye area. When done correctly, botox injections don't result in the "eyebrows-up-into-your-hairline" look or the "frozen-face" look that so many dread.

It merely softens the visible wrinkles that have come about by age, sun exposure and gravity, giving you a refreshed, rested look.

The Risks

That all being said, side effects and risks are something that anyone getting the treatment needs to take into consideration. Although it has been used in the medical community since approximately 1994 and is largely considered a safe and effective treatment, bruising at the site of the injection, the rare chance of an infection, and the possibility of unintentionally affecting nearby muscle groups among other things should be taken into consideration and discussed with your qualified medical injector.

The Cost

The cost of Botox injections varies widely based on three main factors: where you live, who is doing the treatment, and the location of the treatment on your face or body. Do your homework, because the difference in cost can be quite amazing. That being said, do not sacrifice quality and experience for price, because even though Botox wears off after a few months, it could be a few months of living with a very poor decision--on your face.
